APC National Chairman Abdullahi Adamu suffered a surprising defeat in his own polling unit during yesterday’s governorship and House of Assembly elections in Nasarawa State. In the GRA (A1) Polling Unit 010 in Keffi, the headquarters of Keffi Local Government Area, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured 159 votes, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) garnered only 129, according to Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) presiding officer Okoh Everest. The Social Democratic Party (SDP) received a single vote, and the Labour Party (LP) obtained none.
Two days before the February 18 election, the LP had merged its structure with the PDP for the governorship and State House of Assembly contests, a move that likely contributed to the APC’s poor performance. The APC also lost the House of Assembly poll in Adamu’s polling unit, with the PDP obtaining 133 votes to the APC’s 108; the PDP candidate, Governor Inuwa, won by a landslide.
Adamu’s setbacks extended beyond the state level. He lost his senatorial district to SDP candidate Ahmed Wadada in the National Assembly race, and in the presidential election, his polling unit was won by the Labour Party, with Peter Obi ultimately carrying the state.
