The Labour Party’s governorship candidate in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes‑Vivour, announced on Twitter that he will defend the votes of his supporters from the election held on Saturday. He began by thanking Lagosians, especially his supporters, for turning out to vote, saying, “I’m convinced that with you in our corner, a new Nigeria is imminent.”
Rhodes‑Vivour expressed sorrow over reports of violence and the disenfranchisement of voters who simply wanted to fulfill their civic duty. He condemned attacks on polling units, voters, and party agents, calling them “totally antithetical to what we stand for and what Lagos truly represents.” He further accused a collusion between the ruling party and electoral officials to ensure the return of the All Progressives Congress candidate, describing it as “a slap on the face of democracy and everyone who came out to vote for us on Saturday.”
He asserted that the results released by the Independent National Electoral Commission do not reflect the wishes of the majority of peaceful Lagosians. According to his field agents and situation room, the Labour Party actually won the election. “I am a champion of the people. We are far from done. Do not lose hope, do not waver,” he urged, emphasizing that the struggle is not over and that they will not accept “outright lies, criminality and falsehoods.” He concluded by pledging to defend every vote cast for him, despite intimidation and personal risk, calling it a “sacred duty” and his vow to every LP voter.
