The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) call for a rerun of the recently concluded gubernatorial election as evidence that the PDP and one of its chief backers, former Governor Ibikunle Amosun, are “sore losers.” In a statement released on Sunday in Abeokuta, APC State Publicity Secretary Tunde Oladunjoye said the “vile” demand, issued only minutes after the Independent National Electoral Commission declared the results, “could only have come from people who knew of their electoral loss well ahead.”
The statement added that it was “unfortunate” to have to respond to a “baseless demand purportedly from the PDP but intriguingly published by one of Amosun’s lackeys,” especially when major newspapers had yet to report detailed election results. The APC urged the “just‑retired former political gladiators” to “go back home, drink water and relax even as they lick their wounds.” Their loss, the party argued, must seem like a “dream” to those who believed that the “humongous ill‑gotten wealth and violence” they displayed could guarantee victory.
The APC also condemned PDP gubernatorial candidate Ladi Adebutu for invoking his late mother’s name in what it described as “record‑breaking electoral bribery,” calling it “a big shame, glaring disrespect for the dead, and an acute moral deficiency.” Citing the arrest of a PDP agent in Ado Odo‑Ota by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the party noted that while establishing a foundation in a deceased mother’s name might be charitable, using it “as an avenue to induce voters” is “most uncharitable, unacceptable, and ridiculous.”
Finally, the APC urged its supporters to remain faithful, to emulate the governor’s magnanimity in victory, to avoid provocation, and to report any threats to peace to the nearest police station.
