The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Francis Nwifuru, the winner of the 2023 Ebony State election on Monday. The announcement was made by the State Returning Officer, Professor Charles Igwe, who also serves as Vice‑Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Professor Igwe certified that Nwifuru received the highest number of votes cast.

According to INEC’s official results, Nwifuru secured 199,131 votes. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Dr. Ifeanyi Odii, trailed with 80,191 votes, while the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate, Professor Benard Odoh, obtained 52,189 votes. Other candidates received the following totals: Nwandugo Chukwuma (AA) – 554; Nwono Benard (ADC) – 673; Ozioma Kenneth (ADP) – 578; APM – 206; APP – 99; Labour Party (LP) – 6,793; NNPP – 674; NRM – 310; SDP – 126; and YPP – 280.

In his statement, Professor Igwe thanked the party agents, members of the public, and the press for their presence. He affirmed his role as Returning Officer for the Ebony State governorship election held on 18 March 2023 and formally declared Francis O. Nwifuru of the APC the winner, having secured the highest number of votes.
