The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Katsina State has rejected the results of Saturday’s governorship election. At a press conference in Katsina on Monday, the party’s Director General of the PDP Campaign Council, Dr. Mustapha Inuwa, announced the PDP’s position. The event was attended by the party’s governorship candidate, Senator Yakubu Lado, the campaign council chairman, Senator Ibrahim Tsauri, and other state party leaders.
Speaking on behalf of the PDP, Inuwa said, “We reject the result of last Saturday’s governorship election in totality. The election was characterised by violence, financial inducements, intimidation of civil servants, and many other malpractices.” He added that the party will take the matter to court, expressing disappointment that “instead of allowing the electorate to freely elect their leaders, cases of malpractices, including intimidation of civil servants, financial inducement, thuggery, and violence were employed to twist the electorate’s choice.” Inuwa expressed confidence that “by the grace of God we are going to win.”
Inuwa also noted the discrepancy in voter turnout, pointing out that despite lower participation on Saturday, the APC secured almost twice the number of votes it received in the February 25 presidential election, which had higher turnout. “They added only a few thousand figures to our party that came first in the presidential election, to show that they are not smart at all,” he said. He urged party members and supporters to remain calm and law‑abiding while the PDP challenges the results at the tribunal.
Governorship candidate Yakubu Lado echoed the party’s stance, stating, “The election was characterised by several malpractices, which we will cite at court. I reject it totally.”
In contrast, the APC candidate, Dr. Dikko Radda, who was declared the winner, promised “an inclusive government” that would address the interests of all groups in the state. Radda made this assurance on Sunday night, shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the results. According to INEC, Radda received 859,892 votes across 34 local government areas, while Lado obtained 486,260 votes, placing second. Nura Khalid of the New Nigeria Peoples Party came third with 8,263 votes.
