Collins Etaredafe, a musician known as Top Boy, has gone into hiding after allegedly killing two unidentified Bureau‑De‑Change (BDC) operators at his residence in the Lekki area of Lagos State. According to Metro, Etaredafe and an unidentified friend invited the BDC operators into his apartment under the pretense of exchanging dollars. After the men entered the building on Saturday, 18 March 2023, they were reportedly killed and their bodies dumped in a drainage channel at the front of Etaredafe’s home.
Paul Omotosho, a facility manager in the neighbourhood, told our correspondent that the building’s agent informed him that neighbours who discovered the corpses in the drainage traced drops of blood back to Etaredafe’s apartment. Omotosho explained how he first met Etaredafe through the musician’s girlfriend, Evelyn, three years ago when she asked for help finding a short‑let apartment. “He called me, said he was staying in Delta State and needed a place in Lagos. He later sent money to my account for items he wanted,” Omotosho recalled. In February 2022, Etaredafe requested an apartment for his mother, whom he wanted to surprise with a home in Lagos. Omotosho arranged the unit through a fellow agent and, trusting his regular client, provided the necessary details even though Etaredafe’s mother had no identification. “Since then I assumed his mother had moved in,” he said.
Omotosho was at home when the agent responsible for the apartment called to report that Etaredafe had allegedly killed the two BDC operators and dumped their bodies outside the gate before fleeing. The agent said blood traces in the apartment linked the murders to Etaredafe, who had invited the men to change dollars before killing them. In an effort to locate the musician, Omotosho contacted Etaredafe’s girlfriend, who said she only knew him from social media and had no information about his relatives or whereabouts.
A video of the bodies being recovered from the drainage was posted online. In the footage, a voice can be heard lamenting the incident, saying, “This Topboy threw these two men outside the gate of the estate after he killed them. He calls himself an artiste.”
During the investigation, police from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yaba summoned Omotosho for questioning on Friday. After visiting the SCID, he was detained along with two other agents who had helped secure the apartment for Etaredafe. State Police Public Relations Officer SP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the incident, stating, “The main suspects are on the run. No part of the victims’ bodies was cut off. The case is with the SCID and is progressing. The security man is in custody and is assisting with the investigation.”
