Ondo State Commissioner of Police Oyediran Oyeyemi announced that the two children of a couple who were allegedly set ablaze with their grandmother, identified only as Iforiti, are still alive. The 75‑year‑old woman is accused of igniting a fire that killed her son Victor, his wife Rachael, and their two children in the Aponmu community of Akure South Local Government Area on Sunday. According to City Round, the incident occurred around 2 a.m. while the victims were asleep. When questioned, the woman reportedly claimed she acted because the victims had starved her.

Initial reports stated that all the victims died at the Federal Medical Centre in Owo, where they were taken for treatment. However, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, clarified that although the couple died, their children survived. She also noted that the 75‑year‑old suspect was injured in the fire. “The first thing is to treat her (the suspect) because she was affected by the inferno too. The two kids are safe and responding to treatment,” Odunlami said.
