No fewer than 300 residents of Ile Oluji/Oke Igbo Local Government Area in Ondo State received free medical treatment from a team of state practitioners. The beneficiaries were treated for ailments such as hypertension, diabetes, eye‑related diseases and other medical complications. The outreach programme began on Monday and concluded on Friday.

Speaking about the initiative, Senator Nicholas Tofowomo, who represents the Ondo South Senatorial District, said the free medical outreach was a necessary intervention for the area’s residents. He explained that patients who required surgery would be referred to the Federal Medical Centre in Owo for later procedures. “Patients that need surgery will be taken to the Federal Medical Centre at a later date for the surgery,” the senator affirmed.

When asked about the motivation behind the gesture, Tofowomo said it stemmed from his passion for improving the health of his constituents. “What drives me is the love and affection I have for my people. I am part of them. I have been adding value since my university days. In the 80s, I was the general secretary of the Ile‑Oluji student union, and we introduced many activities to better the lives of the people. Ever since then, that spirit has remained in me; it is already part of me. Even when I was in the UK, I always came home to add value to my people,” he explained.

One of the beneficiaries, Fasola Kike, praised the organiser, noting that the programme had a real impact on the health and livelihood of the community.
