Governor Seyi Makinde, the winner of the March 18 governorship election in Oyo State, called on his co‑contestants to join hands with him in moving the state to greater heights. Speaking on a radio programme in Ibadan on Saturday, he said, “Electioneering is behind us now and we are to battle the issue of governance now. This is our state and commonwealth and we must make sure we move our state forward.” Makinde described his electoral success as a victory for the people of Oyo State and said he would be open to adopting ideas from his opponents wherever they proved superior to his own.

He urged everyone to come together in the interest of Oyo State, promising to reach more people with infrastructural development and to continue delivering quality projects across all sectors. Makinde stressed that he would build on the solid foundation laid during his first four years in office, putting the lessons learned during the campaigns into practice and continuing vigorous development as he has done since taking office in 2019.

The governor expressed gratitude to all residents—including elder statesmen and women, businessmen, labour unions, market associations, and religious bodies—who supported him before, during, and after the election. He noted that his administration would extend infrastructure to more areas and touch a wider population in his second term. Recruitment of teachers and other non‑teaching staff, as well as the construction of additional educational facilities, will receive major priority. Makinde also announced that many workers who were dismissed would be re‑absorbed, provided they were not linked to fraud.

Finally, the governor said the contract for rehabilitating the Agbowo Shopping Complex, located opposite the University of Ibadan’s main gate, would be re‑awarded to a contractor with the appropriate capacity as soon as possible.
