Comedian Ayodeji Richard Makun, popularly known as AY Makun, revealed that his long‑standing feud with fellow comedian Bright Okpocha—better known as Basketmouth—originated from an unpaid sum of ₦30,000. In an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, AY explained that early in his comedy career Basketmouth frequently invited him to perform at events.

The dispute dates back to a particular gig where the organizers expected Basketmouth to appear. AY was not paid for his performance and, after contacting Basketmouth, learned that the organizers claimed they also had not received payment. When AY reached out to the organizers, he was surprised to discover that the ₦30,000 had actually been paid before the event took place.

At that time, ₦30,000 meant a great deal to AY—it could buy him a pack of noodles, recharge cards, fuel for his generator, and even allow him to pay one or two people to help produce a quick skit. The audience, however, was disappointed because they had come expecting Basketmouth. After AY’s performance, the organizer was pleased, exchanged contacts with him, and then left.

Two weeks later, AY still had not received the ₦30,000, leaving him hungry in Iponri. When he asked for the money, he was told the payment had not been remitted and that the organizers were unhappy. AY later shared screenshots of his conversations with both parties, which sparked the conflict and ultimately led to the 17‑year feud. He found it “very funny” to learn that the full payment had actually been made long before the event.
