Guinea‑Bissau coach Baciro Cande is confident that the Djurtus will complete a double over Nigeria when the two sides meet again in the reverse fixture of their 2023 AFCON qualifier at the Estádio 24 de Setembro in Bissau on Monday, Sports Extra reports. Cande credited his team’s historic 1‑0 win at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on Friday to their resilience and determination, noting that a thorough analysis of the Eagles’ players and coach José Peseiro’s tactics helped them keep their hosts quiet and secure the result. “We studied the Eagles and how Peseiro usually sets up his team, and the boys stuck to our game plan with resilience and determination,” he said. “It paid off, with Balde scoring the winner. For the second leg we will revisit our plan on how best to play Nigeria. Of course we will be aiming for another victory, while still respecting the Eagles despite our Friday win.”

Djurtus captain Braima Jorge echoed his coach’s sentiments, stressing the team’s determination to finish the job in Monday’s match. “Nigeria have talented players who are known worldwide and play for top clubs,” he noted. “We scored and defended well to frustrate Nigeria. It was a good win, and we want to return home and complete the job.”

The Djurtus currently sit top of Group A in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers with seven points from three matches, one point ahead of Nigeria, who are second with six points. Sierra Leone occupy third place with two points, while São Tomé and Príncipe sit at the bottom of the group with one point.
