The Nasarawa State Police Command has prohibited all forms of protest across the state’s 13 Local Government Areas, according to a statement released by Public Relations Officer DSP Ramhan Nansel in Lafia on Sunday. The command said the ban is intended to prevent a breakdown of law and order and to preserve the peace currently enjoyed in the state. The statement warned that any protest, “under any guise,” is prohibited and that anyone who violates the order will be arrested and prosecuted. Parents and guardians were specifically urged to ensure that their children and wards do not contravene the ban.

Our correspondent notes that members of the Peoples Democratic Party, including women and youth groups, have been protesting since last Monday. They are demanding that the Independent National Electoral Commission review the 2023 governorship election, which saw incumbent Governor Abdullahi Sule declared the winner.
