The Federal Government has assured Nigerians that the transition of power to the new administration will be smooth and peaceful, and it has confirmed that the refurbishment of offices for the President‑elect and Vice‑President‑elect is complete. Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, Boss Mustapha, chairman of the transition committee, emphasized that ongoing litigation will not prevent the handover ceremony from taking place.

Mustapha detailed the preparations: “The committee has been active, and the refurbishment of offices for the President‑elect and Vice‑President‑elect has been completed. The facility at Defence House is ready, and security personnel from the Department of State Services and the Nigeria Police Force have been deployed to protect both officials. Protocol officers from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Intelligence Agency have also been assigned to the President‑elect and Vice‑President‑elect.” He added that the transition process is on schedule and that a peaceful, formal transfer of power will occur on May 29.

Addressing security concerns, Mustapha said the security sub‑committee has been tasked with preventing any attempts to truncate the handover. “All litigations, whether resolved or not, will not in any way stop the process. The President is not spending an extra day in office. Nigerians are very law‑abiding people. Those who have lost an election have avenues to pursue legal inquiries, but the transition will continue unabated. We will not create another constitutional crisis; on May 29 the handover will take place.”

As part of the transition, Mustapha announced that four members of the President‑elect’s team will join the federal government delegation to the spring meeting of the World Bank. He also revealed that the President‑elect has nominated Wale Edun and Kebbi State Governor Atiku Bagudu to serve on the transition committee.
