The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that Governor Ademola Adeleke does not deserve a congratulatory message from his predecessor, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola, even after the Court of Appeal in Abuja affirmed Adele ’s election. The party issued a statement, signed by acting chairman Mr. Tajudeen Lawal, which was obtained in Osogbo on Tuesday.
The statement was prompted by an interview Adeleke gave to Arise Television on Monday, in which he said he was expecting Oyetola to congratulate him following the Court of Appeal’s decision. In response, Lawal questioned the basis for such a congratulation while an election dispute remains unresolved and is headed for the Supreme Court. He described Adeleke’s request as “a tall order with no justification,” noting that the matter is still pending judicial review.
Lawal further criticized Adeleke, asking why he would expect Oyetola to congratulate him after the alleged killing of at least 30 party members and supporters in the course of the election. He accused the PDP of turning Osun State into a “killing field” before, during, and after the polls, and suggested that Adeleke was flaunting the results to create a false impression of popularity and acceptability.
The statement concluded that Adeleke will have to wait indefinitely for any congratulatory message from Oyetola, whom Lawal claims Adeleke “robbed in daylight” during the elections allegedly won by the militia wing of Oyetola’s administration. Lawal dismissed the notion of “selling” congratulatory messages, asserting that Oyetola cannot extend one “for one Kobo.” He warned that demanding such a message from a potential Supreme Court respondent indicates an ulterior motive or a lack of understanding of judicial processes, and reiterated that Adeleke does not merit Oyetola’s congratulations, especially when the request is being forcefully made.
