The National Missioner of the Ansar‑Ud‑Deen Society of Nigeria, Sheikh Abdur Rahman Ahmad, warned that any attempt to truncate the swearing‑in of President‑elect Bola Tinubu on May 29 would be dangerous. Earlier, Festus Keyamo, spokesman for the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, had raised alarms about alleged plots to shorten the transition process.

Speaking at the Ansar‑Ud‑Deen Society’s annual Ramadan lecture in Lagos on Sunday, the Islamic cleric said such a move would divide the country. “It will be unwise for anyone to think they can use extrajudicial means to truncate the swearing‑in. That will be dangerous because it is at the heart of the unity of this country and the well‑being of the people. If we must have a country, we must live by the constitution. If an election has not been nullified through a proper legal pronouncement, the swearing‑in must go on. Those who are thinking of truncating it should rethink in their own interest and in the interest of Nigeria and its people,” he said.

Ahmad’s lecture, titled “Towards the Ultimate Success,” highlighted Ramadan as a season of mercy, urging Muslims to extend love and assistance to the underprivileged. “People are going through a lot in the country. There is no food and money. So, Muslim faithful should share their resources with these people and also provide food for them to break their fast,” he added.

Abdurahman Salaudeen, chairman of the society’s state chapter, explained that the event aimed to reawaken the spiritual alertness of its members. “The essence of the gathering is also to use this Ramadan season to reawaken the sense of unity that binds us as a nation,” he said.
