The police in Ekiti State have arrested five suspected criminals involved in the trade of Indian hemp, according to Commissioner of Police Emmanuel Ogundare of the Ekiti State Command. The arrests resulted from thorough investigations and follow‑up actions by the Rapid Response Squad in collaboration with operatives of the Ekiti State Amotekun Corps.

During a stop‑and‑search operation on Uso Road in Ise‑Ekiti, the police detained a man identified as Monday. He was found carrying a locally made pistol and two live cartridges. After interrogation, the suspect confessed to being an Indian hemp dealer who cultivates the drug in the Ise‑Ekiti forest and engages in other illicit activities. He named four accomplices—ThankGod, Lucky, Wisdom, and Samuel—and led officers to their hideouts in the forest.

Items recovered from the suspects included a locally made single‑barrel gun, four cartridges, and a large quantity of seeds and weeds suspected to be Indian hemp. The police commissioner announced that the five individuals will be arraigned in court once the investigation is completed, reaffirming the command’s commitment to combating criminal activities driven by narcotics and other illicit drugs.

The police chief also urged residents to provide any useful information that could help authorities apprehend criminal suspects in the state.
