Bandits abducted two female students from the Federal University, Gusau, in Sabon Gida village of Bungudu Local Government Area, Zamfara State. The Zamfara State Police Command confirmed that the kidnapping occurred in the early hours of Sunday. According to Police Public Relations Officer SP Mohammed Shehu, the bandits stormed the students’ rented hostel at around 1 a.m.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Kolo Yusuf, assured the public—especially the victims’ families and the university management—that rescue efforts were underway. He said police tactical operatives had intensified search and rescue operations to free the students as quickly as possible. The statement detailed that on April 2, 2023, at about 1 a.m., bandits entered Sabon Gida village, broke into a rented female hostel belonging to the university, locked up two civilian guards, confiscated their handsets, and then abducted two female students from the Microbiology Department.

Upon receiving the report, the police tactical team proceeded to the scene, but the bandits had already fled with the victims to an unknown location. The Commissioner appealed for continued public support to help the police succeed in the rescue mission.
