The new Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Prof. Olusola Kehinde, unveiled his vision for building a 21st‑century university during his conferment as the institution’s seventh substantive VC on Monday. He succeeded Prof. Felix Salako, who had served in an acting capacity for five months.
Prof. Kehinde said his goal is to position FUNAAB among the top five universities in Nigeria and within the top 100 in Africa within the next five years. He emphasized that the university must adapt to new global education trends to remain competitive in research and innovation. “The 21st‑century FUNAAB shall be committed to providing equal access to quality educational opportunities at all levels, fostering national consciousness, values, unity, and the development of appropriate mental, physical, and social skills,” he declared.
His vision is anchored in the “FUNAAB Agenda,” a roadmap outlining the university’s priorities for the next five years. He highlighted the importance of quality research and academic excellence, insisting that academic standards must never be compromised. “A 21st‑century university creates an environment where individuals can thrive and develop according to their needs and potentials,” he said, adding that unhindered access to education is a core objective.
Prof. Kehinde acknowledged the daunting nature of the task ahead but expressed confidence that, with the help of Almighty God, the University Governing Council, staff, students, the host community, and other stakeholders, the university will achieve this lofty vision. He reaffirmed the commitment to providing equal access to qualitative education, inculcating national values, and equipping individuals to contribute positively to national and global development.
