NLC condemns attack on students in Kaduna

The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Kaduna State Council has appealed to the state government and security agencies to do all they can to rescue the kidnapped students of GSS Awon in the Kachia Local Government Area.

In a statement issued by Comrade Ayuba Magaji Suleiman, the state chairperson said, “We urge the State Government and security agencies to do the needful in ensuring the safe release of the kidnapped students.”

The statement strongly condemned the attack and kidnapping of students of GSS Awon in Kachia LGA of Kaduna and other victims in various forests.

It observed that these strategically coordinated and unrepelled attacks on not just citizens of the state but students have given room for worry and despair as to the safety of everyone, stressing that it is becoming increasingly evident that citizens are in a helpless situation.

It condemned the wanton attacks that have consistently been under-reported, saying that it is painting a half-truth picture of the ugly reality that now confronts some parts of the state and urged authorities to do all they could do to free the society from criminal elements.

The statement added that the vicious attacks and kidnapping of students speak volumes to the vulnerability of not just some communities but schools, suggesting that it must not be allowed to continue.

As a State Council of the NLC, the statement added that they are worried and concerned about the safety of not just the students but the security of all and called on the State Government and all security agencies to do the needful as the bandits, who have continued to exercise lordship over some parts of the state, must be flushed out.

Government, the statement explained, must be seen to play the sacrosanct role of protecting the lives and properties of all as citizens of the state must not be allowed to continue to live in fear and uncertainty of their safety and wellbeing, pointing out that many have been killed while others have paid millions of naira to the kidnappers.

The statement said that the government’s assurances must be backed up with reasonable actions that will ensure the safety of all and eliminate all forms of threats to the safety of the larger society.
