The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a suspected robber, Akeem Adeleke, for allegedly hijacking a truck loaded with industrial raw materials on the Lagos‑Ibadan Expressway. Police Public Relations Officer Abimbola Oyeyemi disclosed the arrest in a statement on Thursday, noting that the suspect was taken into custody after the truck driver made a distress call to members of the Federal Highway Patrol stationed along the expressway.
According to Oyeyemi, the driver fled to the patrol officers and reported that, while en route to Ibadan, two gunmen suddenly forced their way into the vehicle and pushed him out. The gunmen then seized the truck and drove it toward Lagos. Acting on the driver’s complaint, the patrol team began tracking the vehicle and eventually sighted it along the road. When the robbers realized they were being followed, the driver of the truck abandoned the vehicle, fell, and struck his head on the tarred road, dying instantly at the scene.
Akeem Adeleke, the accomplice, was subsequently arrested and taken to the Ewu‑Oliwo divisional headquarters. The Divisional Police Officer of Ewu‑Oliwo Division, CSP Toyosi Bello, accompanied the patrol team to the scene, where the deceased robber’s body was recovered and transferred to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital morgue. During the arrest, officers recovered a locally made pistol, three live cartridges, two Itel phones and several charms from the suspect.
The PPRO added that Commissioner of Police Frank Mba has ordered the suspect’s transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a discreet investigation. The commissioner also warned criminals that they would meet their “waterloo” anywhere in the state if they attempted to operate there.
