The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Adamawa State has demanded the removal of the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Hudu Ari.
The state leaders of IPAC who addressed newsmen in Yola on Thursday afternoon, said they had lost confidence in the INEC official and that they would feel better without him.
Media Talk Africa reports that Ari has been surrounded by controversies after a leaked audio suggested that he tried to alter the course of the March 18 governorship election in Fufore, the last local government area from where results were still being expected.
The chairman of IPAC in the state, Mr Bello Babajo who led other members of the group to the Thursday briefing, said IPAC lost confidence in him after Ari was heard instructing his subordinate to ensure landslide victory for a particular governorship candidate in Fufore.
βWe, therefore, as a matter of importance and urgency, call on the INEC chairman to remove the commissioner,β Babajo said, adding that the state needs a REC whose impartiality could be trusted.
The state IPAC chairman, who is the state chairman of Allied Peoples Movement (APM), was accompanied to the briefing by the IPAC secretary, Maimako Alahira, who is the state chairman of Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).
Other parties represented by their chairmen at the Yola briefing were Action Peoples Party (APP), Action Democratic Party (ADP,) Action Alliance (AA), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP,) Action Democratic Congress (ADC), National Rescue Movement (NRM), African Democratic Congress (ADC), and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
