The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Ekiti State Command recently paraded 13 suspected criminals for various offences. According to the state’s Public Relations Officer, Tolulope Afolabi, six individuals were arrested in the Ekute area of the state capital for alleged attempted murder, while seven others were detained for alleged threats to life and theft.
Afolabi identified six of the suspects—Tosin (22), Abejide (22), Adeoye (21), Oke (22), Ayeni (22) and Iremide (22)—as having been on the radar of the command’s Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) since 8 March 2023. They were apprehended on Sunday. One victim, Omolola (23), reported that the suspects attempted to murder her, subsequently mobbed and stripped her naked due to a misunderstanding. She further alleged that the suspects injected pepper into her private parts, recorded the act, and posted the video on a social‑media group created by the principal suspect, Tosin, who leads the group. Preliminary CTU investigations indicated that the suspects belong to a cult operating in the state capital; their initial plan was to kill the victim and dump her in a pit, but an unknown person in the neighbourhood rescued her.
The NSCDC PRO also disclosed that several students suspected of belonging to the Eye Fraternity—who have been causing havoc along Poly Road in Ado Ekiti—were arrested by the CTU on 8 April. The arrested individuals, Adebayo (19), Aladegbemi (22), Ayedemi (18), Oyebanji (20), Abiodun (23), Taiwo (23) and another Abiodun (25), were found in possession of stolen goods. All of them are currently assisting the command in tracing other members of the confraternity.
State Commandant John Fayemi affirmed that the NSCDC has been working assiduously to ensure Ekiti State remains free from security breaches. He warned that the command will not tolerate young men and women—future leaders of the nation—who seek to destroy heritage and undermine human dignity with impunity.
