The Director of Works and Services at the University of Port Harcourt, Frank Ogali, has died in an automobile crash, the university’s management announced. The tragedy occurred just four days after the death of the institution’s fifth Vice‑Chancellor, Emeritus Prof. Nimi Briggs.
UNIPORT Public Relations Officer Dr. Sammy Kpenu disclosed the news in a statement sent to journalists in Port Harcourt on Thursday afternoon. He wrote that Ogali “died late last night in an auto crash at the Olobo Premier College U‑turn of the East‑West Road, close to the university’s main gate.” His remains have been placed in the mortuary.
Dr. Kpenu described Ogali as “a jolly good fellow and friend to all.” Since assuming responsibility for the Works and Services department, Ogali had overseen a “tremendous improvement in the quality of services rendered to the university.” While the university community continues to mourn, the management has been receiving dignitaries who have come to register their condolences.
