On 16 April 2023, Barrister Hudu Yunusa, the Resident Electoral Commissioner for the Adamawa State governorship election, declared Senator Aisha Dahiru—widely known as Binani—as the winner of the poll. Yunusa made the announcement after the supplementary election held on Saturday. However, reports indicate that the Electoral Act stipulates that only the Returning Officer, not the REC, is authorized to announce such results. Details will follow.

In our 19 February 2023 story titled “Woman burns self to death over failure to offset N70,000 loan,” we reported that a middle‑aged woman, identified only as Mama Dada, set herself ablaze because she could not repay a N70,000 loan she allegedly took from a microfinance bank, LAPO. We have since learned that the microfinance institution involved was not LAPO Microfinance Bank Limited. We apologize to the LAPO Group for mistakenly identifying the bank.
