The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission arraigned Joseph Victor Ndubuka before Justice Darius Khobo of the Kaduna State High Court on Monday. The commission said the charges involve two counts: a romance‑scam allegation and the non‑disclosure of assets worth $28,000.

One count states that “Victor Joseph Ndubuka, in March 2023, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, knowingly failed to make full disclosure of your assets by deliberately refusing to declare your cryptocurrency and non‑fungible token holdings, all worth about twenty‑eight thousand dollars, in the Disclosure of Assets and Liabilities Form. You thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 27(3)(a) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment) Act, 2004, punishable under Section 27(3) of the same Act.”

The defendant is also accused of using a false identity as a Caucasian gay man to defraud unsuspecting victims of their hard‑earned money. Ndubuka pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Defence counsel A. I. Hamza requested that the court grant bail, while prosecuting counsel Precious C. Onyeneho urged the court to set a hearing date for the matter. Justice Darius adjourned the case until 3 May 2023 for a hearing on the bail application and ordered the defendant to be remanded at the Correctional Centre.
