The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Munka’la Abubakar before Justice Darius Khobo of the Kaduna State High Court. The arraignment, which took place in Kaduna, concerns seven counts of offences related to obtaining property by false pretence and forgery.
According to the EFCC’s statement released on its website, the defendant allegedly sold four plots of land to Umar Iskil for N4,800,000 in January 2018, using forged title documents. One of the charges states: “That you, Munka’la Abubakar, sometime in January 2018 at Kaduna, within the Judicial Division of the High Court of Justice of Kaduna State, with the intent to defraud, forged a document titled ‘TAKARDAN YARJENIYAN SAYAR DA PLOT KO GIDA DAKE DANBUSHIYA KADUNA’ in respect of a plot situated at Millennium City, Danbushiya, Kaduna, purportedly issued by Abubakar Mamadi, thereby committing an offence contrary to Section 344 and punishable under Section 345 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017.”
Abubakar entered a plea of not guilty to all charges. The prosecution counsel, N. Salele, requested a trial date and urged the court to remand the defendant. In contrast, the defence counsel, Yunus O. Olakulehin, appealed for the defendant’s release on bail. Justice Khobo adjourned the matter to May 10, 2023, to hear the bail motion and ordered that Abubakar be remanded in the Nigeria Correctional Centre.
