UNICAL needs N2.5bn to host NUGA 2026 – VC

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, UNICAL, Prof Florence Obi has said that she will need, at least, N2.5 billion to be able to host the Nigeria University Games, NUGA 2026.

She disclosed this on Monday at a press conference where she reeled out the activities slated for the one-week 35th convocation ceremony of the school.

She said the institution will hold an endowment fundraiser where she hopes to garner the funds to acquire, refurbish and fix facilities in the institution needed for the sporting fiesta.

Prof Obi disclosed that a NUGA team will soon visit the institution to assess the state of facilities for the games.

“If the team finds that the facilities are not up to date, the hosting right could be taken away from us to Ahmadu Bello University, ABU.

“This is why we want to launch the Endowment Fund. We need, at least, N2.5 billion to get ourselves ready for the NUGA,” she said.
