The music world is mourning the loss of Tay Keith, the Grammy-nominated hip-hop producer behind some of the biggest hits of the last decade. He was found dead in his Nashville apartment on Wednesday afternoon, police confirmed.
Metro Nashville Police responded to a welfare check at his Martin Street residence, where they discovered the body of Brytavious Lakeith Chambers, known professionally as Tay Keith. Authorities stated that no foul play is suspected, but the cause of death remains unclassified pending an autopsy.
Born on September 20, 1996, in Memphis, Tennessee, Keith rose from local beats to global fame. His signature sound shaped the careers of hip-hop’s elite: Drake, Travis Scott, Beyoncé, 21 Savage, and Eminem all sought his production.
His most iconic work came with Travis Scott’s 2018 chart-topper “Sicko Mode,” which Keith co-produced. The track became a cultural phenomenon. He also left his mark on Drake’s “Nonstop,” Beyoncé’s “Before I Let Go,” Eminem’s “Not Alike,” and BlocBoy JB’s “Look Alive.”
In 2023, Keith stepped into the spotlight as a lead artist with the viral single “Pound Town,” featuring Sexyy Red. The track exploded online, and Nicki Minaj later dropped a remix, cementing Keith’s versatility.
At just 29, Keith had already earned a Grammy nomination and a reputation as one of hip-hop’s most innovative producers. His death has sent shockwaves through the industry, with fans and collaborators paying tribute.
Police have not released further details. The investigation continues.
