Lawmaker-elect, Erondu denies bankrolling Abia Assembly crisis

A House of Assembly member-elect for Obingwa West constituency in Abia State, Mr Erondu Uchenna Erondu Jr. has denied the rumours that he sponsored the failed impeachment of Speaker of the House, Chinedum Orji.

Rather, he said that the allegations were designed to tarnish his image in the eyes of the Abia State public, saying that he never released money to any individual or group in the House for such purpose.

Erondu, who made the denial while reacting to the Tuesday drama, said he was not yet sworn-in as a legislator and could not have galvanized the members to impeach the Speaker.

Erondu, who was an aide to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu before he resigned to contest election, advised Abians to disregard the rumours.

His words: β€œIt is evident that I am not yet a member of the Abia State House of Assembly.

β€œI am therefore at a loss how I would have galvanized the 16 members who participated in the May 2, 2023 sitting of the House when I am not yet their college.

β€œAt no point did I give any legislator of the present 7th Assembly money to effect the change of Speakership of the House of Assembly.”
