Nduka, Bankole hail Anaemena’s impact

Remo Stars captain, Junior Nduka, as well as goalkeeper Kayode Bankole have saluted the influence of veteran defender, Ifeanyi Anaemena, since teaming up with the club in mid-season, Sports Extra reports.

Anaemena joined the Sky Blue Stars before the start of the second stanza from Saudi Arabia club Al Nahdah after spending about two years abroad. The 31-year-old had previously played for former champions Enyimba, Rivers United the defunct Giwa FC in the Nigerian topflight.

His signing suggested the need for the club to strengthen their backline after conceding six goals in their last four matches prior to the league going on a mid-season break.

Since joining Remo Stars, he has made seven appearances and the club remains unbeaten in the second stanza just as their top-three ambition is back on track.

Captain Nduka told Sports Extra about the new partnership.

“Anaemena has played about 10 seasons in the NPFL and he has even played abroad, so the experience he brings is tremendous and the partnership with Segun Olalere and me has been great. The composure of the back has been great and we owe the club that duty while we are also playing for our name.”

Goalkeeper Bankole who has kept eight clean sheets this season also speaks highly of the former Enyimba defender in their quest to seal a super-six spot.

“He has been a great guy, since he arrived, he has been awesome with his experience and that has really helped us. He does more than defending, watching him from my post, I see how much threat he has when we have set pieces as well,” Bankole told our correspondent.

Remo Stars currently sit third in Group A of the abridged league with 27 points. Their last two games will see them travel to Jos to face Plateau United before hosting Kwara United in the last game of the regular season.
