Kano State’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has firmly rejected claims that it has withdrawn support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term ambitions. The party dismissed these assertions as a “misleading fabrication” by unnamed individuals seeking to create discord within its ranks. In an official statement issued on April 17, 2026, and signed by state publicity secretary Auwalu Abdullahi Soja, the APC in Kano described a purported withdrawal notice attributed to a group calling itself the Arewa APC Forum, Kano State Chapter, as false and politically motivated.
The party clarified that no constitutionally recognized organ within the state chapter had authorized any such declaration. “The APC in Kano is aware of attempts by certain individuals and faceless groups to create confusion and disunity within the party,” the statement read. It emphasized that this so-called forum is not recognized within the party structure and does not represent the views of APC members in Kano State.
Furthermore, the APC reaffirmed its full backing for President Tinubu’s administration, highlighting its focus on governance reforms, economic stabilization, and national development. The party urged its members and the public to disregard the misleading statement, characterizing it as the work of “mischief-makers” attempting to generate unnecessary tension. Officials pointed out that the alleged signatory of the withdrawal notice is not a recognized stakeholder within the party at any level in the state.
Under the leadership of state chairman Hon. Umar Haruna Doguwa, the Kano APC reiterated its commitment to party unity and its support for Tinubu’s leadership. This development occurs amidst broader national debates regarding the president’s performance and future political trajectory, with Kano—Nigeria’s most populous state—remaining a crucial political battleground.
