The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) dedicated its newest church building, named ‘Jesus House,’ located in Durumi area of Abuja. The five-storey building can hold up to 3,000 people in a single service, and the event was attended by thousands of RCCG members and Nigerian dignitaries.
Major-General Pat Akem-Vingir (retd.), of the ‘Jesus House’ parish in Abuja, emphasized the critical role the church plays in Nigeria’s social and economic fabric. He believes that “if you remove the church from Nigeria, the country will collapse. People may deny it, but I am saying it unapologetically.”
The Pastor-in-Charge went on to explain that Nigeria is a country where approximately 70% of the population is young. The church, therefore, acts as a beacon of hope for them, providing them with direction, purpose, and a way to avoid wasting a generation.
During the dedication ceremony, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the RCCG, expressed his appreciation to God for the completion of the project. Accompanied by his wife, Pastor Mrs. Foluke Adeboye and the RCCG Continental Overseer, Pastor Ezekiel Odeyemi, he called for the building to be a space of hope for those in need and a place of worship for generations to come.
The significance of the RCCG’s new building lies in the broader context of Nigeria’s current challenges. The nation is dealing with increasing insecurity, economic hardship, and political instability. The church has become a unique organization that provides Nigerians with social services, relief materials, and even a sense of collective hope.
As the largest Pentecostal denomination in Nigeria, RCCG’s latest project reinforces the organization’s status as a significant provider of social safety. The church has a considerable presence across the country, with numerous schools, hospitals, and humanitarian organizations under its auspices.
In conclusion, Nigeria finds itself at a crossroads, but the role of the church in its social, economic, and political fabric remains vital. RCCG’s Jesus House is a shining example of how institutions like the church are vital to the country’s future and in keeping a young generation purposefully engaged.
