UNICEF recognizes Enugu State government’s efforts in promoting child welfare

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has praised the Enugu State government for its remarkable achievements in promoting the welfare of children and women in the state. The commendation was conveyed by the UNICEF Representative to Nigeria, Ms. Cristian Munduate, when she led her team to a courtesy visit to Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi at the Government House in Enugu.

Munduate commended Governor Ugwuanyi for his commitment to the objectives of the organization and for being a strong champion of child rights. She also applauded his administration for its developmental strides, especially in the areas of primary healthcare and the survival of women and children.

The UNICEF team was in Enugu on a farewell visit to interact with the state’s political leadership and appreciate the outgoing administration’s collaboration with the organization. The Chief of Field Office, UNICEF, Enugu, Juliet Chiluwe, also applauded the state’s commitment to championing nutrition and strengthening primary healthcare programmes, expressing optimism that the incoming government would continue the legacy.

The Governor, who welcomed the UNICEF team, highlighted the numerous assistance the organization has given the state, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. He thanked UNICEF for being a reliable ally in promoting and championing the survival, welfare, and rights of children and women in the state.

The UNICEF team’s visit is seen as a testament to the strong partnership and fruitful working relationship enjoyed between Enugu State and the organization. It’s expected that the incoming administration will sustain the partnership towards giving children the opportunity to live, thrive, and develop.
