Atiku and Tinubu Agree to Certify INEC Documents at the Presidential Election Petition Court

In the ongoing joint petition filed by Alhaji Abubakar Atiku and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against the declaration of President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the winner of the February 25 presidential election, both parties have agreed not to object to all documents emanating from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The legal teams of both Atiku and Tinubu jointly agreed to allow for the documents to be freely scrutinized by the court to ensure a just and fair conclusion. This decision was conveyed to the five-man panel of justices of the Presidential Election Petition Court by Chief Chris Uche SAN, the lead counsel for Atiku, during Thursday’s proceedings.

Representing Tinubu, legal luminary Chief Wole Olanipekun SAN and other lawyers also corroborated Atiku’s position not to object to any certified documents from INEC. This move was made to ensure a seamless and expeditious hearing of Atiku’s petition.

The counsel for INEC, Mr. Abubakar Balarabe Mahmoud, noted that the electoral body would be ready to provide all required documents at the appropriate time to ensure the speedy and efficient hearing of all petitions challenging the presidential election.

More details on the ongoing petition are expected to emerge as proceedings continue.
