Remanded Afrobeats musician, Seun Kuti, has resumed eating after he embarked on a hunger strike following his rejection by fellow police custody inmates. The rejection followed allegations that Seun had slapped a police officer on the Third Mainland Bridge on May 13, prompting his arrest by the Inspector-General of Police, Alkali Baba.

Seun, who later turned himself in for interrogation, was arraigned before a Sabo, Yaba Chief Magistrate Court on Tuesday, May 25, and granted bail, which become effective 48 hours later to allow the police to conclude their investigation. However, after he was remanded at the State Criminal, Investigations and Intelligence Department at Panti, Yaba, Lagos, Seun was rejected by his fellow inmates in police custody.

According to Vanguard, the cell leader ordered Seun to remain standing until he and other cell mates accepted his inclusion and permitted him to sit. The inmates demanded that Seun be taken out of their cell, banging on the metal protective door. To negotiate for peace, Seun eventually agreed to pay a sum of N25,000 to gain acceptance, thereby causing him to embark on a hunger strike that lasted almost two days before he resumed eating.
