The spate of insecurity in Nigeria continues as gunmen have abducted two pastors in Adamawa State. The popular television preacher and motivational speaker, Rev. Mike Ochigbo, who is the General Overseer of Freedom Power Chapel, was kidnapped from his residence located in Nyibango. The incident occurred early on Wednesday when the assailants forced their way into his residence at gunpoint. In a similar vein, the gunmen kidnapped pastor John Moses around the same time.
Residents in the area who witnessed the incident revealed that the abductors invaded Pastor Ochigbo’s residence and indiscriminately shot at the surroundings before forcing him out of his home. This recent event is the latest in a series of similar security breaches recorded in that area, raising concerns about the safety of people living there.
A pastor by the name Hinjari Yoila was also killed in the area earlier this year, prompting military authorities to establish a checkpoint in the area. However, despite these measures, incidents of insecurity have remained widespread.
The spokesperson for the Adamawa State Police Command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed that operatives have been deployed to rescue the victims. CP Afolabi Babatola helms the Adamawa State Police Command, and he has deployed various operatives drawn from the Special Rapid Response Team, Crack Squad, and other Tactical Squads to rescue the pastors. These operatives would carry out tactical and intelligence-driven operations around criminal hideouts and black spots to recover the victims.
As of the time of filing this report, the abductors have not contacted the families of the victims. It is hoped that the deployment of security operatives will bring an end to the spate of insecurity in Nigeria.
