Nigerian Army Honours Late Major with Statue

The Nigerian Army Directorate of Physical Training (DAPT) has unveiled a statue in honour of the late Major Salisu Ndakoji for his outstanding contributions to the physical training of army personnel.

The statue was unveiled during the closing of the directorate’s Officers’ Conference 2023 in Abuja by retired Col. Anthony Asilue, who described Ndakoji as a symbol of physical fitness in the Nigerian army. According to Asilue, Ndakoji played a significant role in taking physical training to greater heights in the army.

As one of the early officers in the corps, Ndakoji’s picture during training, which portrayed him as if he were on a high horse, was used for training at the time. Retired as a Major, the statue’s unveiling was done in commemoration of Ndakoji, with one already situated at the school in Zaria, while the second was revealed at the directorate’s headquarters in Abuja.
