The Nigeria Police Force has announced traffic diversions ahead of the May 29 Presidential inauguration ceremony scheduled to hold at the Eagle Square in Abuja. The Police Public Relations Officer in the Federal Capital Territory, SP Josephine Adeh, said in a statement on Friday that the diversions would take place from several points. These include Goodluck Jonathan Expressway by Court of Appeal, Deeper Life Junction, Bond/Total Filling Station, POWA/FCDA Junction, Finance Junction by ECOWAS/Women Affairs and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and more.

Adeh noted that the command had deployed human and material resources, including intelligence and tactical assets across the FCT to ensure a safe and peaceful inauguration. She added that visibility policing, stop and search duty, intelligence-led raids on black spots, surveillance, vehicular/foot patrol, and other measures would be in place to avert any form of threat on the nation’s democratic process.

The police spokesperson informed members of the public of the proposed fireworks scheduled to take place on the eve of the inauguration, midnight of May 28, at the City Gate and the Millennium Tower to usher in the new administration. The fireworks would be carried out by Messrs Innate Arts and Media.

This announcement will likely affect the daily lives of road users in Abuja as they will have to navigate the traffic diversions and may need to leave earlier than usual to get to their destinations. The police have urged road users to cooperate with traffic officers and to report any suspicious activities to the nearest security personnel.
