Terrorists encircle Birnin-Gwari and abduct many as residents flee

Residents of Birnin-Gwari, a town in Kaduna State, were reportedly abducted by terrorists that fled from neighbouring Zamfara state, who are said to have encircled the town on Thursday night. According to a source close to the issue, the incident took place at Gobirawa area, located just 500 metres from the own’s Air Force field base.

Following the violent incident, the chair of the Birnin-Gwari Local Government, Abdullahi Ibrahim Muhammad Amir, issued a directive to citizens of the area to restrict their movements completely.

Alhaji Zubair Abdurra’uf, the Danmasanin Birnin-Gwari and ex-managing director of the Kaduna State Media Corporation, expressed his concern and frustration regarding the situation. He explained that the terrorists had attacked the town despite his warning earlier this month about their near-approach. He lamented the fact that the government has not given enough attention to the issue of security in Birnin-Gwari, and thus suggested a security summit in the area.

At present, the terrorists have seized control of multiple farmlands, leaving the citizens unable to go about their daily activities in peace. The council has enforced a curfew to maintain the situation, but the community is still waiting for a solution that will allow them to regain control of their land and conduct their daily activities without fear.
