The Taraba State House of Assembly has confirmed the recent passage of 40 bills, during the just concluded 9th State House of Assembly. Speaking at the valedictory session of the House, the Speaker, John Kizito Bonzina, confirmed the accelerated passage of the bills, which he stated were meant to foster good governance and promote growth in the state.
Bonzina explained that the bills passed consisted of legislative and executive orders designed to promote good governance in the state. He said: “During the over 700 seats of the Taraba State 9th Assembly, we passed 40 bills that are for the interest and good governance of Taraba State.”
The bills passed into law include the Taraba State Appropriation Law No. 01 of 2019, Kidnapping and Abduction Prohibition (Amendment) Law No. 2 of 2019, Taraba State Political and Public Office Holders (Remuneration and Other Benefits) (Amendment No. 4) Law, No. 5 of 2019, State Contributory Health Insurance Agency Law, No. 6 of 2019, State Agency for Water Sanitation Services Law, No. 7 of 2019, and State Supplementary Appropriation Law, No. 8 of 2019 to mention a few.
Bonzina appealed to the newly elected members of the House to maintain harmonious relationships with the executives and avoid any actions that could ignite friction between the two arms of government. He also used the opportunity to pay tribute to the old members.
The Governor of Taraba State, Agbu Kefas requested for the dissolution of the 9th Assembly following the expiration of its tenure, which was read by the speaker of the House.
