Director of Abuja School of Social and Political Thoughts, Sam Amadi, Demands Opposition to Tinubu

Sam Amadi, the Director of Abuja School of Social and Political Thoughts, recently spoke up against the new Nigerian President, Bola Tinubu, stating that he requires opposition and not support. In his opinion, Tinubu was in the opposition for sixteen years and should be opposed now that he is Nigeria’s president. Amadi’s statement follows the cancellation of the NLC’s scheduled strike action regarding fuel subsidy removal which has been a particularly contentious issue in Nigeria.

Amadi felt it was the duty of the opposition party in Nigeria to voice their concerns over the actions of the government. He emphasized the need for a critical appraisal of the present government by the opposition party, not blind support.

In a tweet, Amadi wrote that, “For sixteen years, he didn’t support the ruling government. He opposed it. Now he needs the opposition to oppose him, not support him. Let’s see.”

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) had called for a nationwide strike on Wednesday, following Tinubu’s removal of fuel subsidy after his inauguration on May 29th. After holding several meetings between NLC representatives and the federal government, the proposed strike was ultimately called off.

Amadi’s remarks come at a crucial time in Nigerian politics, with many citizens sharing his view that the new president requires critical appraisal and should face opposition from the opposition party.
