The wife of the Governor of Cross River State, Rev Eyoanwan Bassey Otu, has made an earnest appeal to parents, guardians, and teachers to discontinue the exploitation and maltreatment of children, while calling on global organizations to step in and terminate child abuse.

Her call for intervention was launched as part of the commemoration of the World Day Against Child Labour celebrated on June 12th.

Taking to her verified Twitter account, the Governor’s wife denounced the inhumane treatment of children, stating that continuing exploitation and maltreatment of children in the workforce is unacceptable.

In her own words, “I call for action to end the exploitation and maltreatment of children in the workforce. We should all play a role in ending child labour by raising awareness of the issues and supporting organisations that work towards it.”

Child exploitation and labor, which infringe on the rights of children, are still prevalent in many parts of the world despite multiple resolutions and worldwide campaigns. However, actions like those of Governor Otu’s wife could go a long way in putting an end to the menace. Therefore, all stakeholders must join hands in the fight against child labor and exploitation.
