Femi Gbajabiamila Resigns as Lawmaker Ahead of New Role

The former Speaker and newly appointed Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, is set to tender his resignation from the House of Representatives on the floor of the House today, according to a report by Channels Television.

Following his appointment as Chief of Staff by President Bola Tinubu on June 2nd, questions were raised about how Mr. Gbajabiamila would juggle both roles. This became more pertinent when he was inaugurated alongside his fellow legislators for the 10th Assembly on Tuesday.

Mr. Gbajabiamila, a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), had won his Surulere I Federal Constituency election for the sixth consecutive time on February 25th.

The resignation of Mr. Gbajabiamila, as reported by Channels Television, will pave the way for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a fresh election to replace him.
