“Demand for the Release of Emefiele and Bawa: Adeyanju Calls on Tinubu to Uphold the Rule of Law”

Renowned public affairs commentator, Deji Adeyanju, has called on President Bola Tinubu’s administration to uphold the rule of law by releasing the sacked former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, and the suspended Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Abdulrasheed Bawa.

Adeyanju expressed his concern over the detention of Emefiele and Bawa by the Department of State Services (DSS), emphasizing that they should not be treated as political prisoners.

According to Adeyanju, both men should either be released immediately or charged to court, as detaining individuals without trial is a violation of their constitutional rights.

In a tweet, the rights activist asserted, “The DSS must release Emefiele and Bawa or charge them to court. The era of political prisoners should be gone forever.”

He further highlighted the importance of Tinubu’s government operating within the confines of the law, urging him not to replicate the unlawful practices of his predecessor, President Buhari.

Over the weekend, Tinubu suspended Emefiele, leading to his subsequent arrest by the DSS for ongoing investigations into his activities during his tenure as CBN Governor.

Similarly, President Tinubu suspended Bawa from his position as EFCC Chairman, and last night, he was apprehended by the DSS.

In light of these events, Adeyanju’s appeal serves as a reminder to the Nigerian government to act in accordance with legal protocols and ensure that justice is served for all individuals involved.
