Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, has described the state of Imo when he assumed office in 2020 as being comparable to a cemetery. In an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today program, Uzodinma painted a dismal picture of a moribund and distressed state that he claims to have resurrected.
“When I came to Imo State, I met a moribund state, a state that was in distress. A state, I can even say, was in the cemetery; I exhumed the body,” Uzodinma said.
The governor went on to highlight the extensive infrastructure deficit and the deplorable condition of roads and hospitals in the state during his early days in office. He shared that all the roads were virtually impassable, and the healthcare facilities were non-functional.
“Given the situation in Imo State before 2020 when I became the governor and the situation of Imo State today, 2023, three years after, a lot of things are there for people to know that there is a huge difference,” Uzodinma added.
Since assuming office, Governor Uzodinma has prioritized the restoration and development of Imo State. His administration has embarked on an ambitious plan to tackle the state’s infrastructure deficit and revitalize key sectors such as healthcare, education, and agriculture.
The governor’s efforts in rehabilitating the state’s road network have been commendable. Noteworthy road projects, such as the ongoing rehabilitation of major highways and construction of new roads, have greatly improved connectivity within Imo State and beyond. These infrastructure developments have not only facilitated ease of transportation but have also attracted investments and boosted the state’s economy.
Furthermore, Governor Uzodinma’s administration has shown dedication to revamping the healthcare sector. By prioritizing the refurbishment of existing hospitals and the construction of modern medical facilities, the government is aiming to provide citizens with access to quality healthcare services.
Educational reforms have also been a top priority for the Uzodinma-led government. The administration has initiated programs to enhance the quality of education, including the renovation of schools, provision of learning materials, and training of teachers. These measures are aimed at providing Imo State’s youth with a solid foundation for their future success.
As the governor works towards transforming Imo State, his efforts have undoubtedly brought about visible change and progress. The state’s trajectory, once likened to a cemetery, is now showing signs of life and development.
Looking ahead, Governor Uzodinma remains committed to the continued growth and transformation of Imo State. His resolve to create an enabling environment for businesses, attract investments, and uplift the standard of living for all citizens is indicative of his determination to secure a brighter future for the state.
