In a major operation, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has successfully targeted and eliminated scores of Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP) fighters. The operation also resulted in the destruction of a factory used by the terrorists for making Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (VBIED) in the Tumbun area around Lake Chad.

Under the leadership of Major General Ibrahim Ali, the Theatre Commander of the North East Joint Task Force Operation Hadin Kai, NAF fighter jets were strategically deployed to carry out the coordinated attack on Wednesday. Tumbun Bakkassi, a known location used by the terrorists for fabricating various types of bombs, was the primary target.

Reliable sources have revealed that military intelligence uncovered a plot by ISWAP terrorists to deploy highly volatile suicide vehicle-borne Improvised Explosive Devices (SVBIEDs) at a Nigerian Army location in Arege, located in the Abadam Local Government Area of Borno State.

This preemptive strike by the NAF was intended as a response to the recent attempted attack by the terrorists on a Nigerian Army location in Mallam Fatori. It is a clear indication that the Nigerian military will not relent in its efforts to neutralize any threat that seeks to undermine national security.

The NAF airstrike was not limited to Tumbun Bakkassi alone, as a NAF aircraft operating under the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai conducted a series of successful air attacks on terrorists’ positions in Tumbun Shittu, near Lake Chad. The operation resulted in the neutralization of several terrorists.

Since the inception of Operation Warun 3 on June 6, 2023, the Nigerian Air Force has significantly intensified its aerial bombardment in the North East. This relentless campaign has led to the elimination of more than one hundred Boko Haram terrorists, including unit commanders and high-value fighters, in Mandara Mountain within the Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

The precise and effective targeting of ISWAP fighters and the destruction of their bomb-making factory in Tumbun is a testament to the Nigerian military’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Nigeria’s citizens. The operation serves as a warning to terrorist groups that Nigeria will not tolerate any threats to its sovereignty.
