Super Falcons head coach, Randy Waldrum, has officially revealed the final squad for the upcoming 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
Waldrum’s selection is dominated by familiar faces, including the team captain Onome Ebi, Barcelona Femeni forward Asisat Oshoala, and the talented attacking midfielder Rasheedat Ajibade.
Some former Falconets defenders, Rofiat Imuran and Tosin Demehin, alongside midfielder Deborah Abiodun, have also made the cut and secured spots in the squad under Waldrum’s supervision.
Additionally, Leicester City centre-back Ashleigh Plumptre, experienced forward Desire Oparanozie, and Francisca Ordega have been selected as well.
The Super Falcons, nine-time champions of Africa, have been drawn in Group B for the tournament. They will be facing formidable opponents such as Australia, Canada, and the Republic of Ireland.
The team’s opening match will be against Canada on July 21, and they will subsequently go on to play against Australia and the Republic of Ireland in the following fixtures.
During the previous edition of the Women’s World Cup in France, the Nigerian team showcased their strength by reaching the Round of 16, where they were eventually knocked out by Germany.
