The Dangote Coal Mines has made a significant donation of health and educational facilities worth millions of Naira to the coal mining communities in Ankpa Local Government Area of Kogi state. The facilities, which were launched on Friday, are located in the host communities of Awo Akpali and Awo Ojuwo.
Nuhu Elujah, the General Manager of Special Duties at Dangote, officially launched the projects during the ceremony. He emphasized that these projects are part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives towards its host communities. The development of these facilities is in line with the mutually consented Community Development Agreement (CDA) signed by Dangote Coal Mines and the host communities.
Elujah assured the community members that Dangote will take responsibility for staffing the clinic and providing the initial funds for its operations. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining these facilities to ensure their positive impact on the lives of the people in the surrounding areas.
The chairman of Ankpa council, Ibrahim Abagwu, expressed his gratitude to Dangote Coal Mines for their generous donation. Speaking on behalf of the chairman, the Education Secretary, Yakubu Ishiaka, stressed the need for the communities to actively maintain these facilities.
Representing the Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development, Samuel Olaetan commended Dangote for fulfilling its promises and urged the host communities to continue supporting the company in its CSR initiatives.
The representative of the Awo community, Mohammed Ogbe, expressed his appreciation to Dangote Group for ensuring the agreement reached between the company and the community came to fruition.
The National Chairman of the Awo Community Development Association, Robert Agagwu, also applauded Dangote for the timely completion and delivery of the projects. He assured the company of his association’s cooperation for a smooth operation within the communities.
Notable Dangote officials present at the commissioning included Director Finance, Michael Etu, General Manager Human Asset Management, Abrauna Keri, Community/Governmental Relations representative Aluka Bem, as well as Yahaya Zakari and Umar Mohammed.
This significant gesture by Dangote Coal Mines serves as a reminder of the company’s commitment to improving the lives of the residents in the host communities. It is hoped that these health and educational facilities will go a long way in enhancing the quality of life and education in the area.
