Senate Minority Leader: Tambuwal, Dickson storm PDP Secretariat

Ahead of Senators and House members’ resumption of plenary on Tuesday, Aminu Tambuwal and Seriake Dickson led other senators to the National Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party, demanding transmission of letter to the Senate President.

Part of the request was a transmission of the letter stating that the opposition PDP has tipped the former governor of Sokoto State as the Senate Minority Leader.

They, however, met a stiff resistance, as the PDP lawmakers were advised to make themselves available on Tuesday to test their popularity in line with the Senate rules.

No member of the National Working Committee was said to be available to attend to them, but an official who received the letter after making a telephone call to an undisclosed person replied them saying: “You are advised to test your popularity and canvass for votes among your colleagues.

“Senators contesting for Minority leadership should approach all members of the Assembly and canvass for votes on the floor.”

In an interview with journalists, Sen. Aminu Tambuwal said they approached the NWC to send a letter to the Senate on their choice of Minority Leader, and lamented that they were not attended to.

Similarly, Sen. Seriake Dickson, who is also a ranking senator, insisted that the PDP senators have arrived at their choice and they are demanding a letter be sent to the National Assembly.

It would be recalled that the former governor of Rivers State and leader of the G-5 governors, Nyesom Wike, held a closed-door meeting with Senate President Godswill Akpabio where he insisted on his faction producing the Minority Leader of the 10th Senate.
