Court orders police to unseal Plateau secretariats

An area court sitting in Bukuru, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, has ordered the state Commissioner of Police, Bartholomew Onyeka, to unseal all the 17 local government area secretariats in the state.

DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the secretariats were sealed on the orders of Mr Onyeka, following the removal of the elected chairmen of the council by the state governor, Caleb Mutfuwang.

The police commissioner had said that the secretariats were sealed in order to prevent a breakdown of law and order by party supporters.

But the court presided by H.H Dolnaan, while ruling in an ex parte application on Monday, granted an interim order mandating the CP to direct his men to immediately vacate the secretariats and allow workers to resume duties.

The suit with no. ACB/CV/106/202 was filed by the Attorney-General of Plateau State against the CP.

The court, therefore, fixed August 7 for the mention and hearing of the motion on notice.
